Best news app ever better then htc blink feed
This app is reliable, and features a good mix of stories and sources. New stories are added at a reasonable rate, so it doesnt get stale. One of my favorite news feeds, I read it every day.
Perfect. It will be the future of news.
News Rep allows one to chose the news they want to peruse. Lots of info on one app, its the go to app to keep up to date on whats happening on the world.
I always go here first for news. Then NR added a couple of providers: the Seattle Times and the Miami Herald. Now, instead of getting a variety of domestic and international news sources, I get a bunch of Seattle Times articles. Then a couple of global sources, followed by a bunch of Miami Herald articles. I live in Seattle. Am not interested in a bunch of ST articles I can read locally. I dont live in Miami. Im not interested in a BUNCH of Miami articles. I liked NR precisely because it broadened my news horizons to a global view. Now, Im looking for another resource. Unhappy!
Update Oct 1,2016: The most recent update is causing some articles to not show up. The headline is there but there is no text. Despite a number of flaws , this is my favorite news app, and I use a lot of them. It has a very nice, smooth, interface that enables you to scroll quickly, both vertically and horizontally. Unfortunately, the last several versions have cluttered it up with sharing buttons at the top and the bottom and below every article. Its a step backwards. What makes this a truly fantastic app is that you can customize the content, the news sources, and also the order in which content appears on your homepage. No other app does all this. Very nice indeed! So So Content. While this app has numerous providers, it lacks some very significant ones such as ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Politico, and many others. I find myself turning to Smart News more often because the stories are more interesting. Great Homepage The homepage has all of the major sections with the lead stories right there. I dont have to hunt for the section I want to start with, and I dont have to depend on the app deciding for me what I want to see first. This is a great system. Too Many Buttons One of the more recent updates ruined the interface on the article screens. Once you pick your topic at the top level, you move to series of articles. For some bizarre reason every single article has three buttons below them allowing you to react, comment, or share. But how could one possibly know how or whether to react or share or comment on an article that hasnt been read? In the meantime by having them below every article, you can only see two articles at a time. It slows down the process of finding something of interest for the reader. News Republic needs to get rid of these. The connections button is the little logo at the top right that shows you how your topic is connected to other topics. Personally, I never use it. Perhaps others do, but I cannot see how that would be more important than a home button. Im not sure what they were thinking… The "My News" appears to be just another variation of the digest screen which still remains. Im not sure why we need two versions of this. The floating share icon appears when you scroll the top sharing buttons out of sight, but again its totally unnecessary as most articles have sharing buttons built into them already. In fact, rather than leaving the sharing button at the bottom out of the way, they have sharing buttons at the top and bottom. Theres a button for Facebook, Twitter, and email, and then another button that allows you to share with any of those. That last button does everything the previous three do and then some, so again its a complete waste of screen real estate. Really all that is needed is one share button. If the developers would understand that what people want to do is read the news first and foremost, they would eliminate all of those buttons and simply replace them with one discrete button on the top menu bar. Lack of a Home Button Well there are far too many other buttons, the one necessary but that would be helpful is missing. If youre on the home screen you can get to anything fairly easily, but if you drill down very far, you have to tap the back arrow repeatedly to get back to the home screen. The home button is one most people probably use continually every day. Its a shame they deleted it. Final Improvements There are a few improvements that I would like to see: First, add a few more conservative news outlets since most of the current ones are on the liberal side. Second, Restore the Home Button! Third, delete the floating share icon. Fourth, add major media outlets if possible.
apple will no longer support my first gen I pad. someone should write a news article exposing them
Bad bias reporting like CNN
This news is so distorted, it qualifies as pure government propaganda designed to distort reality and facts. If you love corrupt government, you will love this app. Should be called "news of anti American values."
Its a well thought out app
I like the app, I have been using it for several years on a weekly and somethings a day basis. I like that I can create news categories that are the populated with the correct news although some tweaking since for example I have Puerto Rico as a category but sometimes I find only one or two news articles from one day to the next and I am sure there are more news articles than that everyday.
It is very user frendly and keeps you informed on the topics that you search most. Good app!!
Phenomenal product. Use it every day. Easy to use and customize.
Unbelievable that you cant sort topics alphabetically on an ipad. And if you can, where are the instructions? Ive searched the faqs and cant find them.
Easy to navigate and keeps you up to date instantaneously
Have religiously consumed my voracious news appetite with News Republic for over a year. A perfect assemblage of news from around the world. Devoid of the infotainment of most US "news" media. On a par if not better than NPR in objectivity. Ya gotta try this app!
Would rate this app much higher but with no way to remove trash feeds like Clapway I can not give this more than 2 stars. Who wants their news littered with trash clickbait stories?!
Fast! Saves me from installing a dozen other news apps, brings all the sources together. Love the 6.0 update! Im following my friends on Facebook who have good taste in news. But its even more fun to follow the one friend who I completely disagree with.
A Window on the world anytime anywhere!!!
Some folks just like to read the news and dont care to see all the large social media buttons. Old layout was better, please go back!
